How a Lifelong Runner Found Success at His Own Pace
January 6, 2025
United in Stride isn’t just for marathoners and ultramarathoners! Scott Hudson is a 72-year-old life-long runner who is also blind. For years, he struggled to find sighted guides to train with until he joined United in Stride. One week after joining United in Stride, he connected with two guides who have since become regular training partners for him. He later connected with Cheyenne Meyer, the local United in Stride Ambassador for the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and attended a group run she had set up with guides and other blind runners. He is a big fan of United in Stride! The guides were well trained, enthusiastic and ready to help.
Scott is clear with anyone who asks that he is not an elite athlete looking to break records or do ultramarathons. He was surprised to find guides through United in Stride who were willing to run with an older, recreational runner like him. Although his guides are all faster than him, they are willing to slow their pace to help him reach his goals. Since joining the United in Stride, he has gone from running three miles once a week to running four to five times a week with his new guides and racing four half marathons! He says he would never have been able to do this without this valuable resource. Moreover, he says, “It is important for anyone who is blind or low vision who wants to have a healthy life to know there are sighted guides that are out there to start with you at any level and help you grow.”
