Why Wear A Vest?
September 5, 2024
On Facebook, United in Stride Founder Richard Hunter recently shared why he wears a vest while running:
1. If you wear a vest or shirt identifying you as “Blind,” other runners, hikers and walkers will see you, which may lead to a new fitness partner for you or others in our community. I love asking new guides on United in Stride how they learned about us. Commonly, they say they saw a blind runner on a popular running route or at a race. I just learned from a blind runner that they were stopped by a cyclist to ask if they would be interested in tandem cycling. Guess what happened next…
2. Making yourself more visible will improve safety for you and others. When some paths require runners to be single file, some cyclists, in particular, will be more likely to give you some grace and a wider berth.
